Midtown Brandywine
Delaware's largest urban park
Following a mile of Brandywine Creek north is Brandywine Park. At 178 acres, it is Delaware's largest urban park and features a fitness trail, the Brandywine Zoo, a sports stadium and more. Live events and outdoor amenities make Brandywine Park a popular local meeting place. "It's peaceful and tree-lined with a beautiful rose garden," says Monica Hill, a 25-year veteran with RE/MAX Associates-Wilmington.Brandywine Festival of the Arts
Brandywine Park is also the site of the Brandywine Festival of the Arts, an annual celebration of art, music and food. First held in 1961, the Festival features hundreds of artists and their work, drawing thousands of visitors from all over the country.Shopping on the edge of the Business District
With its southern edge hugging Wilmington's business district, Midtown Brandywine features several options for shopping, dining and more. The food hall at Chancery Market is a popular choice for people who can't make up their minds. It includes Mexican, Indian, and Italian cuisine options along with smoothies and poke bowls. Locals can keep their pantries stocked at the Fresh Grocer of Adams Plaza, located 1 mile south.Row house living in a historic neighborhood
Clusters of densely packed row houses line the neighborhood's residential zones, giving Midtown Brandywine a classic urban vibe. Heavy buyer interest exists for these historic homes, with listings typically selling within half a week. Victorian and Colonial housing styles are most common, with Colonial twin homes starting in the high $200,000s and traditional brick townhomes running into the mid-$400,000s. While most houses are in established residential areas, many border businesses and restaurants, meaning that noise and street traffic are a genuine factor for many when choosing the right location.International Baccalaureate at Dickinson High
Local students can begin their education at Shortlidge Academy, ranked B-minus on Niche, before heading to Warner Elementary, ranked at C-plus. From there, they can attend Skyline Middle School, which holds a B-minus, before enrolling in Dickinson High School, which has a B and is known for its focus on the International Baccalaureate curriculum.Easily walkable from Market Street to the Riverfront
Sidewalks that follow the city's grid layout make the area easily walkable, including the attractions on nearby Market Street. "From there, it's not far to the Riverfront; about 14 blocks," Hill says. "So you don't have to worry about parking."Important to know
Though the CAP Index lists the area at a higher-than-average crime score of 9, the Midtown Brandywine Neighbors' Association claims the neighborhood is "exceptionally safe," stating that "Due to our close proximity to downtown Wilmington and numerous excellent food and beverage establishments, and the main Wilmington hospital, we enjoy the close support of the Wilmington police department."
