Minquadale has industrial roots and a mix of home styles
Along the Delaware River in the northern section of New Castle County is Minquadale. The eastern side is highly industrial, while most residences rest to the west. The neighborhood contains well-established homes as well as a number of newer constructions. The housing stock leans toward ranch styles and Colonial influences. Those looking for modern homes can find them among the recently built town homes.
Minquadale offers rehab and newer homes
“The average sales price for a rehab home is typically $215,000 to $245,000, which is under the county average of $350,000,” says Robert Hoesterey, the owner and team lead of The Hoesterey Group. Homes built over the last ten years generally cost between $300,000 to $375,000 on average. Hoesterey says potential buyers may benefit from housing programs that assist with down payments.
Parks, trails and a wildlife refuge offer outdoor escapes nearby
Minquadale has a number of opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors. Those with a green thumb can put down roots inside the community garden. During the summer, locals will head to the neighborhood pool at Surrate Park. The grounds also contain playgrounds and basketball courts for athletic individuals. Wanders may venture along the Jack Markell Trail, offering a pedestrian route from Minquadale to Wilmington. Garfield Park Center hosts drop-in activities for the public, such as indoor walking, basketball and softball throughout the week. Near the Delaware Bridge is Veterans Memorial Park, a public space commemorating Delaware and New Jersey service members. The peaceful grounds include markers and monuments honoring local veterans. Locals of all ages can benefit from Route 9 Library, which attracts passersby with shiny glass windows and a sleek modern design. The onsite sensory and Lego rooms are a big hit among young ones, and the Innovation Center helps to meet the community’s technology needs.
Retail and dining options line Dupont Highway and New Castle Road
The neighborhood has several nearby retail and dining options to choose from. Delis and convenience stores provide quick grab-and-go meals as well as grocery items. Following New Castle Road or Dupont Highway will lead to additional grocery stores and businesses. Casablanca Moroccan Restaurant has colorful yet cozy décor, and patrons can expect to bathe their hands in rose water between meal courses. Mr. Taco Mexican Grill is well-visited for the burrito bowls and quesadillas.
Public schools offer enrichment and discounted college courses
The Colonial School District serves the community’s students. Many young residents begin their academic journey at Harry O. Eisenberg Elementary, which earned a C+ on Niche. Sixth to eighth graders attending Calvin R. McCullough Middle can expect a daily Enrichment period that supports academic and life skills. William Penn High promises dedicated learners an opportunity to take college courses at a discounted price; the high school received an overall B on Niche.
Access to DART buses and a half-hour drive to Philadelphia
Many take the DART bus to travel around the area. When traveling by car, locals can reach New Jersey in 10 minutes and Philadelphia within 30 to 45 minutes. Hoesterey says the neighborhood is conveniently located, with major highways nearby, such as I-95, I-495 and Route 13, which leads to a main artery in New Castle County.
