This suburban neighborhood is comprised of subsidized apartments and Victorian-style townhomes. Around the corner on Vandever Avenue, there are more Victorian-style townhomes with fenced-in front porches. Easy city commute by bus or car
The DART is an intermodal transit system connecting Riverside with the rest of Delaware and nearby cities, including Philadelphia. While this transportation service is available, most Riverside residents rely on their cars for travel. Bordering the northwest side of the neighborhood, US Route 13 is a major highway that runs the entire north-south length of Delaware. Towards the east, Interstate 495 separates Riverside from the city landfill and waste management facility. Residents can take this major highway to access the Philadelphia International Airport and ChristianaCare Christiana Hospital. The Edgemoor railyard and Wilmington’s asphalt plant are fewer than 2 miles away, and residents say the trains can get loud at times.

Dual-enrollment classes at William Penn High School
Riverside students attend schools in the Colonial School District of New Castle County. For kindergarten through fifth grade, children may go to Wilmington Manor Elementary School, which received an overall C-plus grade on Niche. With an overall C on Niche, McCullough Middle School is where students go for sixth through eighth grade. Here, they have opportunities to write for the school newspaper, serve on the student council and join the Business Professionals of America Club. In ninth grade, Riverside teens can transition to William Penn High School, which was rated an overall B on Niche. In partnership with local universities, this school offers a dual enrollment program where students can take college classes for a fraction of the cost.

Waterfront dining across Brandywine Creek
Riverfront Wilmington is a downtown area along the Christina River with plenty of waterfront dining options. Nearby, Constitution Yards is a seasonal beer garden with a traditional American menu and a wide selection of craft beers. With no grocery stores in the neighborhood, this small market provides Riverside with groceries and household items. The Kingswood Community Center is more than just the average rec center. Since 1946, it has been an essential part of the Riverside neighborhood, providing free food, quality childcare and other critical resources for residents. Featuring twelve raised plant beds, the community garden stocks the center’s community refrigerators with fresh produce that residents can take home for free. Kingswood Community Center offers an early learning academy where children ages one to five learn basic skills and concepts so that they are prepared for kindergarten. The center offers similar before and after-school programs for older children in the community as well.
