Welcome to West Hill, your Wilmington haven where the houses are historic, the restaurants are nearby, and the parks are in your backyard. "It's a great area if you're looking to be close to restaurants and entertainment and if you're working in the city of Wilmington," says Scott Farnan of Berkshire Hathaway Services, Fox & Roach Realtors. "The neighborhood is within walking distance to parks and the Wilmington riverfront."

Take a walk in Cool Spring Park Historic District, and you can spot angular architecture and peaked roofs of Gothic Revival homes alongside the rambling porches and turreted facades of Queen Annes along the shady sidewalks of the neighborhood. Homes tend to range in price from $270,000 up to nearly $1 million. Farnan says the market is tight in Delaware and if you see a listing go up, expect it to go fast, especially given the neighborhood's central location. "If you want to live in the city, this is an area people flock to," Farnan says. You've got a lot of 100-year-old houses here." You'll see people out and about walking their dogs, heading to historic Cool Springs or Tilton Park, or driving downtown to catch a show. "You can go out and walk to numerous restaurants around the area, and they're all close to the area," Farnan says.

You can walk across Pennsylvania Avenue and head to Trolley Square. This lively center of nightlife, restaurants, and bars is minutes from the neighborhood. Grab a slice at Grotto Pizza and celebrate any occasion at Opa! Opa!, or have a laugh and a cup of coffee at Brew HaHa. Many of the buildings in this area have the same historic feel as Cool Spring, providing a sense of continuity and connection to your home base.

Three-acre Tilton Park is a community hub known for its flowering Japanese Kwanzan Cherry Trees and the Tilton Park Tile Mural. Every spring, you'll see cherry blossoms bloom, then drift to the ground and create a pink carpet for a few days. The tile mural was created to showcase the history of Wilmington and the park and has images of Quakers, the Underground Railroad, and soccer, along with information about the park's founder, Dr. James Tilton. "Cool Spring Park and Tilton Park are great for dog walking and basketball," Farnan says.

The neighborhood is served by the Red Clay Consolidated School District, which has an A- rating on Niche and is ranked in the top five school districts in Delaware. Students start their academic journey at William C. Lewis Dual Language Elementary School, where bilingual education in Spanish and English is an integral part of the curriculum. The school uses a language immersion model that presents a 50/50 split between Spanish and English, with a focus on students maintaining their bilingual education for the rest of their academic careers. Alexis I. du Pont Middle School has a student-teacher ratio of 14 to 1 and is known for its committed teachers. Students wrap up their academic journey at Alexis I. du Pont High School, which has a B rating on Niche and is known for its excellent teachers, clubs, activities and college prep. The school also has robust extracurricular offerings, like Dungeons & Dragons club, drama club, and astronomy club.

Come to West Hill, where you're close to downtown and nature and there's always something new to explore.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students.
