New Hampshire's natural beauty
Wilton combines New Hampshire’s natural beauty and the town’s extensive history. It’s a smaller area with a population of around 4,000. It’s a community that takes pride in its downtown Main Street and historical buildings. “It’s a rural community. I’ve been seeing the area go from a more rural to a sought-after area,” says Jane Farrell, Wilton Town Clerk. “We don’t have the congestion from Nashua.”

Traditional Colonial homes spread out
“Like many of these New England towns, they respect our roots,” says Farrell. “We are fortunate to have properties that survived their current condition from the 1700s. We’re out in the country. It’s beautiful.” Houses are mainly spread out unless they’re located in the center of the town. There are a lot of luscious and tall trees that allow for privacy. Homes towards the downtown area are closer together with less privacy. Longer driveways and shamrock-green trees complement the manicured lawns. Lot sizes can be from a half-acre to over 7 acres. Townhouses and single families come in federal and traditional colonial styles. Homes are between $100,000 and $500,000, and houses are under 2,000 square feet with three bedrooms. Anything over $500,000 will stretch over 2,000 square feet and have larger lot space.
Wilton's Colonial History
Andy’s Summer Playhouse was Wilton’s former townhouse before it was burned down in 1859. The town rebuilt it the following year and placed the Paul Revere and Sons bell damaged from the fire back in, where it remains today. The current Wilton Town Hall has a Queen Anne architecture. It became a National Register of Historic Places in 2009, and the second level houses the beloved Town Hall Theater. The theater on the second floor used to show presentations and short films. “There are some locals who have ties to the founding families, which is neat,” says Farrell. “That, to me, is amazing. Families with the same name live on those roads.”
Massive trail system and water recreation
Wilton’s natural beauty is shown through its forests and trails. “We have a massive hiking trail system, which is fortunate,” says Farrell. “I’m told you can go from Southern New Hampshire to up north.” Heald Tract, Sheldrick Forest and Frog Pond are just some spots for mixed-use trails. “As residents, we all enjoy, and all enjoy, the reservoir,” says Farrell. “It used to be a water source. Now, it’s fully open for recreation.” These are mainly for anglers looking to cast their line. Goss Park is a seasonal park open from June through August. Families spend their time out of the lakes swimming and floating. Other recreation includes volleyball, basketball, baseball and a playground. Locals take to Carnival Hill for a thrilling sleigh ride and scenic views.
Attention on public and private school levels
Lyndeborough Central School teaches kindergarten students. That school has a B-minus on Niche. Florence Rideout Elementary holds a B on Niche and teaches first through fifth-grade students. Wilton-Lyndeborough Cooperative Middle-High School holds a B-minus on Niche. It goes from grades six through 12. This school offers many ways for students to personalize their learning, including AP courses, early college courses, advanced technology courses, and Running Start courses. High Mowing School is a private boarding school that’s a big draw. This school educates students of all grades and brings in students from all over the world.
Walmart is located in the Amherst neighborhood and servers the surrounding area.
Local pride on Main Street
All of the dining is located within the area’s downtown. Wilton House of Pizza is a community favorite. The “WHOPpers” that enter this spot enjoy the house special pizza and their salads, wings and wraps. Taco Time Cocina and Cantina Mexicana serve staple Mexican dishes. Head after work for their tacos and fajitas and pair that with a margarita. The weekly grocery haul can be done at the nearby Market Basket up route 101. Main Street is home to several shops with local artistry, such as Artisans Boutique, Here Today Emporium and Local Share. “It’s a strong part of the town,” says Farrell. “It’s part of the eclectic nature.”
Route 101 and 31 to the cities
Routes 101 and 31 are the primary routes that get residents to other metro cities. Follow route 31 south to get towards Fitchburg. Route 101 runs from east to west through New Hampshire. Follow the route east to head south towards Nashua or north towards Manchester.
