Wind Lake is a part of the “jewel” of Wisconsin
Wind Lake, in Southeast Wisconsin, is part of a region popular for its recreation, jobs and distance from big-city crowds. Jack Baker, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Real Estate Group, says the area is known as the jewel of Wisconsin, partly because of the jobs created by the industry coming to Racine and Kenosha counties. “You get the nice Wisconsin small-town atmosphere, and yet, we have a lot of amenities.” The community of 5,300 people has several lakes, which many use for activities like ice fishing, water skiing and boating. “All of our lakes in Southeast Wisconsin are relatively clean. There’s good fishing, and it provides an opportunity for people to actually live on the lake,” Baker says.
Wind Lake is mostly long-time residents with a few vacation homes.
Long Lake is a smaller lake but it is a favorite among the locals of Wind Lake.

The community offers space and waterfront living
Mature trees and lush, spacious yards surround many homes along roads without sidewalks. Wind Lake has a median lot size of just under half an acre, but several properties have far more space. Like in other lake communities, many who live near the water have access to private backyard docks. Houses across Wind Lake include ranch-style homes, Cape Cods, split-levels and Colonial Revivals. Size and location are cost factors, and some of the community’s most expensive homes are along the lakes. Homes under 2,000 square feet mainly sell from $220,000 to $580,000. Larger homes mainly go from $450,000 to $730,000, and a few upscale and waterfront ones run between $800,000 and $1.2 million.

Wind, Waubeesee and Long lakes cover over 1,000 acres and offer plenty of boating and fishing opportunities. Fish common in the lakes include largemouth bass, panfish and walleye. Meyer Park has a walking trail, playground and baseball, softball and T-ball fields. Some of its open fields are used for soccer, while the park’s hill draws sledders during the winter. “We also have an abundance of golf courses in Southeast Wisconsin,” Baker says. “You can be about anywhere in Southeast Wisconsin, and, in 15 minutes, you can be on a golf course.” Wind Lake is within 10 miles of the 36-hole Edgewood Golf Course, one of the few public golfing facilities in the area.
