Many Indian Hill homes have lush gardens.
In Worcester, but feels like suburb
The Worcester neighborhood of Indian Hill borders the grassy suburb of Holden, and it shows. Single-family homes, including colonials and Victorian houses, have grassy front lawns with shady trees. Boaters launch their watercraft into the recreational Indian Lake. Commuters make use of Interstate 190, which winds through the area. Billy McGuiness, co-owner of 1 Worcester Homes and a Worcester native, says people usually refer to the area as the neighborhood around Brattle and Ararat streets. “A lot of people like being up that way because it makes them feel like they’re in Holden, without paying Holden prices,” he says.
Recreational lake with public beach
Indian Hill is bordered to the south by Indian Lake, a recreational Worcester waterway. Canoeing, kayaking and boating happen at the lake, which has the city’s only public boat ramp. But noise is not really a concern. “For its size, it’s not dominated by boats, which is kind of nice to see,” McGuiness says of Indian Lake. “It tends to be a little quieter.” Shore Park has tall trees, picnic tables and a public beach. The 4-acre Indian Hill Park has basketball courts, a baseball diamond and a multipurpose field. Kids play on the park’s playground, and people of all ages use its walking trail for exercise. Woodsy hikes take place at the dog-friendly Nick’s Woods.
