In the west side neighborhood of Tatnuck, the urban feel of Worcester fades away in favor of a more relaxed way of life. Tatnuck is home to Worcester State University and is a short drive from downtown. It’s considered one of the quieter neighborhoods because it’s primarily residential. Tatnuck means “at the great hill,” which refers to the hill that runs up Pleasant Street. Worcester State University is a public university within the Massachusetts university system. It is a major employer for neighborhood residents and holds over 6,000 students on campus grounds.
