Life along Main Avenue
Though Wynantskill doesn’t surround the United States’ iconic Route 66, it does sprawl outward from New York State Route 66 in the eastern part of the state. The main commercial thoroughfare, also known as Main Avenue, is orbited by networks of intertwining residential streets lined with mature trees and dazzling green lawns. “For a lot of people, the draw to Wynantskill is the sense of privacy,” says Colin McDonald, a real estate broker with the McDonald Real Estate Company. “You’re close to Troy and East Greenbush, too, and it has a good school district and it’s conveniently located. There’s a plethora of grocery stores, restaurants, coffee places and shops.” For a day outdoors, residents aren’t too far from splashing into the depths of Snyder’s Lake or cheering on the Tri-City Valleycats closer to Troy.
There is lots of commerce happening around Route 4 and going all the way north to Troy.

Homes with a suburban vibe
The Wynantskill neighborhood has gradually expanded over time, with most of the homes constructed around or just after the mid-20th century or closer to the new millennium. Older architecture typically dates to the 1930s, and different areas encompass both rural and suburban lifestyles. Some properties have a farm-like atmosphere, situated on the edge of fields or small ponds dotting the landscape, while others could lie atop hills or be set into the landscape. “A lot of people who are looking for acreage and land or want to build, this is a great place to do that,” McDonald says. “It’s a very rural area.” Smaller Cape Cods and ranch homes typically sell for between $250,000 and $350,000, while larger townhouses or custom properties can be listed for $500,000 or higher. For single-family residences, though, quiet streets and long driveways exude a cozy, rural atmosphere away from the main roads.

Two schools for students in Wynantskill
Students mostly receive their education at the Gardner-Dickinson School, one of only two schools within or close to the neighborhood. The school as a whole receives a B from Niche, hosting pre-kindergarten through eighth grade but divided into elementary and middle schools. Gardner-Dickinson in itself serves as the only institution within the Wynantskill Union Free School District. Upon graduating eighth grade there, students have four districts to choose from. Among these, Niche ranks Columbia High School the highest, at an A-minus. Columbia High sits close to East Greenbush, south of Wynantskill, and is ranked the best public high school in Rensselaer County.
Gardner-Dickinson School has a B rating at Niche and serves grades PreK-5.

Recreation on dry land and the water
Though there aren’t any established parks within the boundaries of the Wynantskill neighborhood, Classie Lassies Softball operates a quintet of diamonds along Alden Way on the south side of the neighborhood. Snyder’s Lake sits just beyond the southern end of Wynantskill. Residents can dive into its waters or fish for the catch of the day, or take craft on the water and paddle kayaks, lounge on boats or go waterskiing. Alongside the park lies North Greenbush Dedrick Park, which features a small beach at the water’s edge. The Wynants Kill creek also flows through most of the neighborhood’s northern half, where regulated fishing is allowed.

Local eats along Main Avenue
Wynantskill is one of the first areas motorists pass through when heading south from Troy on Route 66. The neighborhood’s stretch of the road is Main Avenue, which serves as the foremost hub for shopping, dining and businesses. At the westernmost end, Jack’s Drive-In has been operating for almost 90 years and serves sliders, fries and more. Farther down the road, residents can find classic bites like hot dogs, hamburgers and fries at Little Big Fatz Fish Fry & Scoop Shack alongside towering ice cream cones or rich sundaes. Close by, the Fifth Tier Baking Studio and Coffeehouse specializes in freshly-baked treats, and hot-and-ready pies are sold at Labella Pizza of Wynantskill. A Hannaford location close to Jack’s Drive-In serves as the main grocery stop in the area along Main Avenue, and a Market 32 and more restaurants are situated to the west on Route 4. Villa Valenti is just west, featuring a pub atmosphere complete with lively trivia nights and in-house concerts.

Spending time at the diamond or the farm
Minutes to the west, baseball fans can head to Joseph L. Bruno Stadium, where the Tri-City Valleycats play. A former affiliate of the Houston Astros, notable alumni of the Valleycats include World Series champions Hunter Pence, Ben Zobrist, Jose Altuve and George Springer. To the south, residents can’t interact with valleycats at June Farms, but they can visit with barn cats there. “There’s great places that are close by,” McDonald says. “June Farms is famous and a great place to go if you want to have some drinks or cocktails. It’s a beautiful farm and you can pet animals and things like that.” Located less than seven miles south, it has animals like cows, goats and pigs, all while offering walks around the grounds and hosting events.
At Bruno Stadium you can come and catch a game with the local Wildcats team during their season.
At June Farm's there are lots of things to explore and enjoy, including guided ATV rides.

Nearby landmarks and bustling areas
To the west, Route 4 serves as the primary thoroughfare close to Wynantskill. Besides offering more restaurants and shops for locals, the road starts in East Greenbush, just south of Wynantskill, and arcs its way through both New Hampshire and Vermont. Albany’s downtown area is less than 10 miles to the southwest across the Hudson River. “The Albany area is the capital region,” McDonald says. “It’s a great location. It’s probably two hours and 20 minutes from Manhattan, three and a half hours from Boston and a four-hour drive from Montreal.” Other local landmarks, like the Berkshires, the Catskills, Lake George and the Adirondacks, are also close by, and Main Avenue has bus stops for public transportation.
Watching the Wildcats warm up is a past time in the capital region for baseball fans.
With so many features, June Farms is a great option for a visit, stay or big celebration.
