A recreational hub in Dunwoodie
Dunwoodie, 19 miles from New York City in Yonkers, is surrounded by local attractions. “Dunwoodie is sort of like central Yonkers, so it’s easy to access any point,” says Yara Annechiarico, owner and broker of At Home With Yara Realty, who has been working in the industry for 24 years. The oldest public golf course in Westchester County, Dunwoodie Golf Course, takes up the neighborhood's western side and has remained a staple for over 100 years. At the southern end of Dunwoodie, bordering Cross County Parkway, the largest seminary in the Archdiocese of New York, Saint Joseph’s Seminary and College, sits on 40 green acres and regularly hosts spiritual and academic events and private functions. Dunwoodie is also home to Little Italy, which features fine-dining Italian restaurants and more casual pizzerias. For more recreation and local attractions, downtown Yonkers is 2 miles away, and the Empire City Casino is 1 mile away. “Anything you need in Yonkers is literally at your fingertips,” says Annechiarico.
North-South County Trailway connects Dunwoodie Golf Course and Tibbetts Brook Park
Two county recreation areas border Dunwoodie: the Dunwoodie Golf Course and Tibbetts Brook Park. The 18-hole golf course's sloping terrain makes for exciting games, and less-experienced golfers may use the practice greens before hitting the main course. Separated from Dunwoodie by the Cross County Parkway, Tibbetts Brook Park, 1 mile away, comprises 161 acres of open fields, lakes and sporting areas. Near a mini golf course sits the crown jewel of Tibbetts Brook Park, an aquatic center featuring a maze of waterways, including a lazy river and a slide. The North-South County Trailway runs through Tibbetts Brook Park and into Dunwoodie, totaling 36.2 miles. Residents can run, walk or bike south to the Bronx in New York City or north to Yorktown. The trail passes by the H.F. Redmond Jr. Memorial Park in Dunwoodie, featuring 35 acres of green space with baseball diamonds and swing sets.

Saw Mill River Parkway takes commuters into New York City in under an hour, while the Fleetwood train station, 2 miles away, takes 37 minutes on the Harlem line. “Whether you are in Dunwoodie or Lawrence Park, you’re close to the train,” says Annechiarico. “In Dunwoodie, you’re close to Fleetwood, Bronxville or Tuckahoe. All train stations lead to Grand Central.” Several popular roadways, including Interstate 87, border Dunwoodie. Medical care is 3 miles away at NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester using the Bronx River Parkway. Interstate 87 leads 15 miles to LaGuardia Airport and goes under the Cross County Parkway, which divides the neighborhood in half and leads to the Cross County malls. Being close to several busy roadways can become loud, but most homes are bordered by foliage and other roadways.
Religious ceremonies and holiday events at Saint Joseph’s Seminary and College
The Empire City Casino, set to become a newly remodeled MGM Empire City, offers horse racing, a gambling floor, live entertainment and eateries. “There’s always something happening,” says Annechiarico. Saint Joseph’s Seminary and College hosts events throughout the year, from academic lectures to holiday concerts. The seminary also hosts public masses. Other houses of worship in the area host religious ceremonies and events, such as St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Yonkers, St. Ann's Catholic Parish and others within and outside the neighborhood.
