A residential village just minutes from downtown York

Just west of downtown York, Shiloh brings a suburban and personal feel to York County. “Shiloh is just a small, village-like area. It’s really not a town, it’s an area,” says Realtor Glenda Kane with Realty One Group Generations and York native. “It doesn’t even have a post office.” The residential streets break down into several communities and subdivisions, offering everything from single-family homes to townhouses. Regardless of which community people choose to settle down, residents feel connected to their neighbors and part of a community. “You’ll meet all your neighbors just walking your dogs,” Kane says.

Colonial Revivals and townhomes throughout Shiloh

Shiloh’s wide streets feature more open roads without too many trees looming over the pavement and simple to no landscaping on lawns. Sidewalks run on both sides of the streets. Depending on the subdivision, people can find various housing styles, but Shiloh predominantly features Colonial Revivals and split homes or brick ranches. In communities like Stonegate Village, New Traditional townhomes are available. Homes in Shiloh typically list between $250,000 and $350,000, with the townhomes pricing around $200,000. Kane shares that the housing costs might be a little higher than other areas in York, but West Manchester Township’s taxes are lower.

Multiple elementary schools in Shiloh

Students begin at Wallace Elementary School for kindergarten and first grade, and the school earns a B from Niche. With a B-minus from Niche, Lincolnway Elementary School serves grades second and third. Trimmer Elementary School houses fourth- and fifth-grade students. This school and West York Area Middle School (WYAMS) receive C-plus rankings from Niche. At West York Area High School, juniors and seniors can participate in career internships. Niche awards the school a B-plus ranking.

Golf courses and tennis courts for athletes around Shiloh

Grandview Golf Course is one of the oldest public golf courses in the area, inviting people of all skills to practice and play on the green. Sunset Lane Park offers three baseball diamonds and two tennis courts. Throughout the subdivisions, residential parks like Loman, Derry and Shetter Parks provide green spaces just a short walk from the surrounding homes.

Shiloh's local traditions and the York State Fair

Because Shiloh is a more residential community, its social calendar is a bit quieter than other surrounding areas, but things are still happening. “Just last week the firetrucks all came through with the Easter Bunny,” Kane says. Further, Shiloh’s proximity to York means residents are just a short drive from annual festivities like the York State Fair at the fairgrounds. This tradition was founded in 1765, but today features concerts, rides and food. On Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, Penn Market has offered fresh produce, cheese, meat and baked goods to York since 1866. Even with so much happening in York, Shiloh residents make their own festivities. “Whether it's happy hour or breakfast, you’ll see the locals get together,” Kane says.

Local restaurants found along Carlisle Avenue

Most of Shiloh’s businesses and restaurants line Carlisle Avenue, like The Vault Pizza and Grill. Here, folks can try their specialty—bread turnovers, where the restaurant rolls sandwich ingredients into a dough ball and bakes it in the oven. For a morning cup of joe, residents can head over to The StrEAT Café. “You won’t see any franchises in the Shiloh area,” Kane says. “They’re all owner-owned restaurants and shops.” At Whitecomb’s Farm Market and Greenhouse, residents can shop the local produce and baked goods at their bakery. Outside, they have an array of seasonal plants. For other grocery options, West Manchester Town Center has a Walmart Supercenter just 1.9 miles away. Weis Markets is along Roosevelt Avenue. “We have everything pretty convenient to us,” Kane says. “We have malls all within a 2-mile radius.”

Drive to downtown York via Carlisle Avenue

While people can stroll along the sidewalks in their neighborhoods, they will likely need cars to get around York and beyond. Carlisle Avenue runs down the center of Shiloh, connecting it the 4.4 miles to downtown York. Some buses stop in Shiloh, particularly around Kenneth Road. UPMC Memorial Hospital is within the community, along Roosevelt Avenue. Closer to West York, I-83 is nearby, linking people to Harrisburg, 26 miles away. Harrisburg International Airport is 31 miles from Shiloh.

Some people are okay, but my neighbors are awful and the roads are bad. There's also no one my age. The people here are either middle age to old or they're children.

The area isn't terrible. Although there are other places that are far better than hanging out in York for a day. Things like traveling to Lancaster or Hershey to find things to do there. I believe its all in the perception of the person.
