Youngsville started as a rural farming town in the late 1800s, but since the 1990s, it has consistently ranked among the fastest-growing cities in Louisiana. Today, it counts 18,000 residents, more than double its population in 2010. Youngsville appeals to homebuyers looking for a small-town atmosphere, local amenities and proximity to Lafayette, 10 miles away. “It’s a vibrant mixture of old and new,” says Kevin Rose, a Realtor with Re/Max Acadiana who has lived in the Lafayette area for 20 years. “We haven’t really lost touch with where we’ve come from, like many of the cities that grow as fast as we have. It’s still a lot of the old farm values.”

Newer homes in modern Youngsville subdivisions
Youngsville’s rapid growth over the past two decades has spurred residential construction, and many houses in the city have been built within the last decade. “You’ve got a whole range of people moving in, from first-time homebuyers to couples downsizing,” says Julie Knight, an independent Realtor and broker. Most are single-family homes, though there are some newly constructed townhouse communities. Newer builds are typically clustered in modern subdivisions, while many of the area’s older homes are smaller but sit on large lots. The median home price in Youngsville is $280,000, higher than Lafayette’s median of $235,000 but significantly lower than the national median.

The Youngsville Sports Complex opened in 2014 and has since become a destination for athletes in Southwest Louisiana. The facility features nine baseball and softball fields, six soccer fields, 10 tennis courts, a beach volleyball complex and an indoor recreation center with basketball and volleyball courts. “It brings a draw in for the state and national tournaments that come in, but it’s just a small segment of how people use the facility,” Rose says. “It’s for the people here. You can go and get court space, or they have all the city activities there.” Sugar Mill Pond offers fishing and walking paths along the water, while Foster Park has a fitness trail, playground and basketball court.
