What homebuyers can pay for single-family homes and condos
The neighborhood is varied, with a mix of early-1900s bungalows, Tudor Revivals, Colonial Revivals and contemporary houses and townhomes, among other styles. Prices are just as wide-ranging. Homes of 2,500 square feet or less can run from the upper $300,000s to the upper $800,000s, while larger houses often go from the mid-$500,000s to around $2.2 million. Condos near Lake Harriet usually sell between the mid-$100,000s and the lower $300,000s. HOA fees typically hover between $450 and $850 per month. The neighborhood tends to be more expensive than communities like East Harriet and Fulton, but less expensive than nearby Morningside.

The community is popular for its location and vibe
John Brekken, a Realtor with Compass Realty, says the neighborhood is consistently one of the most desirable parts of the city. “There’s a big and wide range of properties and really hot restaurants,” Brekken says. It’s also full of personality, as seen in the Como-Harriet streetcar line that runs through the community each summer and fall, taking people to Lake Harriet, one of two nearby lakes. The area’s grid-like, wide streets make it easy to walk around, and biking is also popular. The Linden Hills Neighborhood Council hosts social events and area cleanups, helping people feel connected to the community.
There's outdoor fun to be had all year
The neighborhood is next to Lake Harriet and Bde Maka Ska, two of the links in the city’s Chain of Lakes. Boat launches help visitors get their canoes and kayaks on the water. “They don’t allow motorized vehicles on them, but anything non-motorized is OK,” Brekken says. Lake Harriet Park has two beaches, walking and biking trails, a pier and a playground. Each winter, the park hosts Art Shanty Projects, a four-weekend festival where artists create homes and other structures on the frozen lake. Brekken says the event is a must-see every year.
Bde Maka Ska Park has three beaches, a boat dock, sports fields and an archery range. The walking and biking trail that borders the lake is around 3 miles long. Next to the lake is The Minikahda Club, a private country club with an 18-hole golf course, and the Bakken Museum, which has exhibits on the history of electricity and hosts weddings and other special events. Away from the lakes, Linden Hills Park provides hockey and ice-skating rinks and a wading pool. It’s where the neighborhood’s annual Spring Fling Egg Hunt is held.

Southwest High School serves area students.
Students are zoned for the Minneapolis Public School District
Students are served by the highly rated Minneapolis Public School District, including the neighborhood’s Southwest High School, which also gets high marks. Students can attend any school outside the district that has space under Minnesota’s open enrollment policy. Carondelet Catholic School is a nearby private option for kindergarten through eighth grade. Citywide magnet schools like Ella Baker Global Studies and Humanities School, in Lowry Hill East, use enrollment lotteries.
Walk to shops and restaurants
The neighborhood has its own commercial district at the intersection of West 43rd Street and Upton Avenue South. Dining options in the area include:
Martina, which serves a blend of Italian and Argentinian dishes
Le Burger 4304, a French spin on a classic burger joint
The Harriet Brasserie, a New American eatery
Naviya’s Thai Kitchen, where people can pick from six spice levels
Rosalia Pizza, known for its elevated signature pizzas
There are also shops like Wild Rumpus Books, a bookstore that caters to younger readers, and Settergren’s, a hardware store. For groceries, residents often head to Wedge, a community co-op, but Target and Trader Joe’s are also within a few miles.
The Harriet Brasserie has a bar and restaurant seating and serves new american cuisine.
Sebastian Joe's has a location in Linden Hills and serves coffee and ice cream.

Getting downtown and to the airport is easy
Linden Hills is about 5 miles from downtown’s business district, where companies like U.S. Bank and Target are headquartered. The drive often takes 15-30 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.
