Pie Town
Street tacos and craft cocktails in the Blue Room
"Pie Town has a lot of exciting things going on, but really, it's just starting," says Reynolds. "It's got the huge City Winery, the axe throwing bar—Pie Town Tacos is one of my favorite spots for Mexican food in town—and when you go, make sure to sit on the back porch and check out the Nashville skyline." Fish, pork, steak and chicken tacos are served street style from the 400-square-foot shop, while their blue Pie Town Taco truck makes frequent appearances at local street fairs. Other neighborhood staples include Third Man Records, fully stocked with both vinyls and new releases, and the attached Blue Room Bar, where guests can order craft cocktails with names like "Mabel's Medicine," snack on stuffed pretzels from FatBelly, and listen to live music under the deep blue ambient lighting. Next door, longtime Realtor Lisa Peebles says there are enough restaurants in The Gulch community "You could eat at a different one every night of the week — or month."For groceries, the Whole Foods on Broadway is a go-to for groceries.Soul, jazz and bluegrass in Nashville music venues
Live music, everything from experimental jazz to old-school country, is easy to come by in Pie Town. "City Winery has been somewhat of a Nashville staple for locals and tourists," adds Hodges, and, along with rock and soul bands, they also host touring comedians and improv shows in the "Lounge." Another spot is Rudy's Jazz Room on Gleaves Street, a cozy club inspired by prohibition-era New Orleans. Or a short walk away in The Gulch, Peebles explains that The Station Inn is the "hallowed grounds of bluegrass." Surprise guests might even make an appearance onstage. "You never know who you'll run into," she adds. Closer to downtown, the Bridgestone Arena hosts events ranging from NHL matches to A-list country stars, while Ryman Auditorium has a history dating back to the 1890s. Over the last century, performers like Harry Houdini and Harry Styles have graced this stage, and visitors can book self-guided tours to learn more about the theater's storied past.Non-owner-occupied condominium communities
Luxury condominium communities are on the rise throughout Nashville, and Pie Town is no exception. In brand-new buildings like Hyve — known for its NOO, or Non-Owner Occupied units — prospective buyers will find one-, two- and three-bedroom options starting in the mid $500,000s and selling for upwards of $1.3 million depending on the square footage, terraces and city views. In the words of Hodges, "The Hyve building was one of the things that was planned to go into the neighborhood to bring in more vibrance," and it's become a coveted complex due to its central location. HOA fees fund routine building maintenance and provide residents with access to a community pool and fitness center.Magnet programs in the Metro Nashville Public School district
Pie Town is districted for public magnet schools like Jones Elementary and John Early Middle, both of which earned C-minus grades from the educational review site, Niche. After eighth grade, students can move on to options like Pearl-Cohn High School, an entertainment-focused magnet school that also has a C-minus rating from Niche, or the A-plus-rated Hume-Fogg High (also called "The Castle"). Opening its doors in 1912 as the first public school in the city, today, Hume-Fogg is known for its advanced academics and student opportunities to enroll in classes at nearby Vanderbilt University. Those enrolled in AP Environmental Science coursework may partner with the Urban Green Lab, a local non-profit that provides instruction in sustainable living.Noble Park night markets and free movies
Although Pie Town doesn't have any of its own public parks, residents can make the short walk to The Gulch for outdoor amenities, like its colorful dog park. Locals tout Nashville as a pet-friendly city and most outdoor fairs and festivals encourage residents to bring their four-legged friends along too. On select Fridays throughout the year, residents can look forward to night markets in Noble Park, complete with live music, artisan booths and locally-sourced meals from food trucks like Califarmia. There's also the touring "Opera on Wheels" series and outdoor movie nights, both of which are free of charge. Walker and bikers travel along the Gulch Greenway, which begins near the intersection of Broadway and 11th and extends all the way north to Frank Pierce Park, a multi-million-dollar addition to the city that includes a volleyball court and space for yoga classes.Public transit options along 8th Avenue
As the population continues to climb, the city is looking into expanding its public transit options — "We don't really have a mass transit system in Nashville," says Hodges and most residents rely on their cars to get between neighborhoods. The WeGo buses do run dependably along major thoroughfares like 8th Avenue and Broadway; and there's also the Music City Star, a commuter route between Lebanon and Nashville's Riverfront Station. There is also a Greyhound station on Ash Street. A short 10-minute drive along Interstate 40 will get residents to the Nashville International Airport, which offers nearly 100 direct flight options, and medical care is accessible just a few miles away at the Ascension St. Thomas Hospital Midtown and the TriStar Centennial Medical Center next door.
