Lake Cherokee is a historic district alongside downtown Orlando
In the late 1800s, the shore of Orlando ’s Lake Cherokee attracted so many newlyweds that the cluster of homes was dubbed Honeymoon Row. The neighborhood is one of the city’s six historic preservation districts, and it continues to entice homebuyers with its century-old architecture, water views and Spanish-moss-cloaked trees. Though it’s a small, mostly residential community, it’s close to more developed neighborhoods, such as the employment hub in the Central Business District and retail-heavy South Orange.
Lake Cherokee residents can walk to downtown Orlando.

Preserving Lake Cherokee’s Craftsman, Colonial Revival homes
The primary factor that sets Lake Cherokee apart from neighboring communities like Delaney Park is Lake Cherokee’s historic preservation district status, says Julie Bowyer, a Realtor with Keller Williams at the Parks who sells homes in the neighborhood. “That’s probably the main difference,” Bowyer says. “There are more rules and regulations for houses.” Early residents began to build homes in the 1870s, but construction took off in the early 20th century. That’s why Craftsman, Mediterranean and Colonial Revival designs are the dominant styles along the neighborhood’s brick streets. The local preservation board must approve planned renovations to the outside of a house, a process that can take weeks. However, homeowners can take advantage of federal tax credits and city property tax exemptions if they fix up a historic home. Though the neighborhood is more regulated than others in Orlando, the result is an appearance that’s rare in the city. “The homes have a character you are not going to find in newer construction,” says Rochelle Warriner, a Realtor with United Real Estate Preferred who has worked in the local market since 2019.
Some homes were built as far back as the late 1800s.
Craftsman is a common architectural style in Lake Cherokee, where half the homes were built before 1935.

How much houses and condos cost
Two- and three-bedroom homes typically sell from the upper $200,000s to the upper $600,000s. Houses with four or five bedrooms have sold from $1.3 million to $2.7 million. Homeowners don’t have to pay HOA fees, but if you buy one of the neighborhood’s condos, you’ll likely have to pay $100 or more in monthly association dues. There has been only one recent condo sale, which fetched $675,000.
Quick access to downtown Orlando, other employment hubs
Lake Cherokee is just off Florida state Road 408, making it easy to take the highway to and from the neighborhood. Most locals use cars to get around, but you can also catch Lynx buses that stop on East Anderson Street on their way downtown. Plus, a bike lane along South Orange Avenue enables cyclists to cross over Lake Lucerne into the heart of downtown in less than 10 minutes. Here’s how far it is to some of the region’s major employment hubs:
The Central Business District, where tens of thousands of people work, is less than a mile away.
Orlando Regional Medical Center, a hospital with 4,300 employees, is a mile away.
