Following the expansion of the railroad, the city grew rapidly and has since become one of the largest and most affluent suburbs in Minnesota. Today, the city is home to over 80,000 residents and major companies like Energy Management Collaborative and Silk Road Medical which provides jobs within the area's health and manufacturing industries. With excellent schools and abundant seasonal activities, Plymouth stands strong as the fourth-largest city in Hennepin County.

Competitive market of new builds and lakeside views
“The market in Plymouth is highly competitive,” says Guerra, who has over eight years of selling experience in Plymouth. “There’s a wide range of housing options available and values tend to hold stronger than those in the surrounding areas.” Established single-family homes are the norm here and prospective buyers can choose from ramblers, split-levels or two-story new Traditional designs. Condo units are also common here. Most homes in Plymouth cost around $480,000, which is $40,000 more than the average property in the Minneapolis metro area. For example, price points can range from as low as $100,000 for a one-bedroom condo to upwards of $2.8 million for a newly constructed Traditional home with waterfront views. Lakefront properties are the most desirable and can also fetch the highest prices.
Seasonal activities and Clifton E. French Regional Park
Plymouth is home to eight lakes and 67 parks totaling 1,800 acres of city-owned outdoor spaces for residents to enjoy. Spanning over 300 acres, the Clifton E. French Regional Park is the largest green space in the city and features a modern playground, wooded trails and Medicine Lake. It’s a popular spot for picnicking, swimming and fishing in the warmer months. Winter activities here include cross country skiing, sledding and snowshoeing. Nearby, Eagle Lake Regional Park is another area option, with 230 acres of unpaved trails, access to Pike Lake and a public 9-hole golf course. The Plymouth Community Center is located at the heart of the city and is open year-round. The facility features two gyms, a dance studio and an indoor track for public use. The Plymouth Ice Center is the place for winter skating, offering open skate times and also hosting the Wayzata High School’s hockey teams for practice and games. Overall the city, like Minnesota at large, experiences all four seasons, with an average of 53 inches of snowfall per year.

City-wide gatherings and annual events
The City of Plymouth hosts a variety of seasonal events throughout the year. In February, locals can attend the annual Fire & Ice Winter Festival, a longstanding tradition for over 30 years. Festivalgoers can enjoy dog sledding, ice skating, fire dancers, local food vendors and a finale of fireworks at Parkers Lake. In April, residents can attend the Primavera Celebration at the Plymouth Community Center. It’s a three-day event where local artists can submit their work to contests or browse the public gallery spaces. In June, the Hilde Performance Center hosts the Hilde Nights free concert series, where residents can enjoy live music from the comfort of their folding chairs and picnic blankets at the outdoor auditorium.
High-marks for Plymouth Schools
Families in Plymouth are served by four public school districts: Wayzata, Robbinsdale, Osseo and Hopkins. According to data provided by the city, most students attend Wayzata Public Schools, representing 64% of the population. The district earns an A-plus grade from the educational review site Niche and is ranked as the no. 1 best school district in Minnesota. Schools like Wayzata High offer a rigorous curriculum with more than 32 AP courses for college credit. Private school options like Providence Academy and Fourth Baptist Christian School are also available here.
Local retailers and the Plymouth Farmers Market
Most residents shop on the west side of the city along U.S. Highway 55. This hub features name brand grocers like Cub Foods, Fresh Thyme Market and Lunds & Byerlys. For fresh produce, residents can visit the seasonal Plymouth Farmers Market at the Parkers Lake Playfield. It hosts a wide variety of vendors offering prepared foods and locally sourced commodities on Wednesdays from the end of June to early October. Big box retailers, like Target, T.J. Maxx and HomeGoods are found to the north along U.S. Interstate 494. Dining options range from fast food chains to locally owned eateries sprinkled throughout the city.

Metrolink rides and trips into Minneapolis on Highway 55
Interstate 494 and Highway 55 intersect at the heart of the city, connecting residents to neighboring areas and downtown Minneapolis. The Plymouth Metrolink provides public rides and participates in the regional Guaranteed Ride Home Program, which provides free trips home during an emergency. When traveling further, the Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport is 23 miles away. For healthcare, the Abbott Northwestern Hospital is located in the city’s center.
Crime
On average, Plymouth experiences lower crime rates than Minneapolis. In 2023, the Plymouth Police Department reported 35 incidents per 100,000 individuals. Comparatively, the Minneapolis Police Department reported 182 incidents per 100,000 people during 2023. The city's Safe Community Camera Program is one way that residents can help deter crime. By registering their exterior-facing security cameras with the police department, local police can then use this footage in their investigations, when relevant.
