This magnificent top floor condominium has vintage details that most of the other units in the building do not. The original folding French doors between the living and dining rooms, the other French doors leading out to the front sunroom, to the kitchen and out to the foyer and all of the original woodwork in its original gleaming condition. The foyer has a vaulted decorative ceiling. The sellers had built a massive mahogany bookcase that spans the entire west wall of the dining room with lighting above and detail to echo the original Prairie style woodwork in the entertaining spaces in the front. Unlike most railroad style units common in Hyde Park/Kenwood and the rest of the city, the living and dining room and kitchen are all in the front of the home, so that the bedrooms and baths are secluded in the rear. A distinctive barreled ceiling long hallway connects the front of the apartment to the rear. The kitchen has a peninsula for eating and preparing and new stainless steel appliances. The huge pantry has the original cabinetry for extra storage and the washer and dryer. The primary bedroom in the back of the apartment has its own private sunroom currently being used as a nursery, but could be a marvelous study with two walls of windows. There is another big bedroom and the original maid's room with an ensuite bath. There is a private stall garage out back and ample storage in the basement with a front hallway access. Most of the rear windows have been replaced, while the front vintage windows have storms and screens. It's a terrific location. The bus to the University of Chicago has a stop steps away and it's an easy walk or bike to campus. Just down the street is the Whole Foods and Marshalls as well as the express bus to the Loop and the Metra stop. Trader Joes is just a few blocks beyond and all of the terrific shops and restaurants are just two blocks to the south. The Lakefront is easy to access.
