He was also a 2021 nominee for Austin Business Journal’s Top 50 Residential Real Estate Awards. Barrett is a sixth generation Austinite with unparalleled knowledge of the city and a passion for helping people enjoy it. Along with his city insights is his industry depth, evidenced by his Homeward; Graduate, Realtor® Institute; and Real Estate Divorce Specialist designations.
Originally from Beaumont and raised in Conroe, Barrett left his hometown to earn a degree in economics with a minor in sociology from the University of Texas at Austin. His education is why he often approaches things from a cost-benefit analysis perspective, a handy skill for his company’s real estate clients. Barrett initially became a middle school math teacher, an experience that helped him plan and present information clearly and concisely — and with plenty of patience. He got into real estate after his son, Wyatt, had major heart failure at just 1 week old. After Wyatt underwent open-heart surgery (he is fine now!), Barrett needed a second income to pay off mounting medical bills. He fell in love with the job and eventually traded in assigning homework for negotiating contracts, earning his real estate license in 2014.
The endless opportunities to assist people drew Barrett to the industry. His first experience in helping a friend sell her rental property was a white-knuckled process made much easier with a first-rate guide. Now, Barrett is honored to shepherd people through their transactions, and he is equally devoted to mentoring his team members in their careers. At Harpeth Realty, Barrett has assembled a squad of LEGIT agents through and through (filled with Loyalty, Enthusiastic contribution, a Growth mindset, Integrity, and Team spirit).
Love for real estate aside, Barrett is enthusiastic about spending time with his wife, Kristen, and three children. A cycling enthusiast, if he is not hitting the roads and mountains on his bike, he is enjoying it as a spectator. Barrett also loves watch collecting and country and punk music. Growing up, he played guitar and sang in a couple of rock/punk bands; today, you can find him filling in at church and obsessing over George Jones. Barrett also sits on the board of the TownLake YMCA and is a faithful member and elder of Grace + Peace Austin.
