Jay Soneff was born in Denver as a third generation Denverite. He graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1973 and received a baseball scholarship to the University of Colorado under then coach Irv Brown. In 1977, Jay graduated from CU with a bachelor’s degree in business finance and a minor in economics.
In 1978, Jay obtained his real estate broker’s license at 22 years old and started a career in selling residential real estate with Duncan and Duncan Realtors under Pat Richards, one of Denver’s most prolific residential realtors. In 1979, Jay took a broker associate position at Moore and Company with Bill Moore to work on larger residential properties and to learn the commercial real estate business as well. In 1981, Jay founded Jamis Companies, Inc. as a brokerage to specialize in the purchase and sale of downtown Denver parking lots. Through the 80’s Jamis expanded to commercial development and management; by 1998 Jamis had developed over 200,000 square feet of commercial centers and developed 20 acres of prime retail land for investment. As a developer and property manager for retail centers, Jay has tremendous experience dealing with a variety of commercial leasing and management situations.
Jay has developed extensive experience in all aspects of the real estate business. He has experience in sales and acquisitions, land development, construction and construction management, land and commercial property development, financing and management. He is a survivor of several market swings from the late 70’s boom to the late 80’s crash. The market swings have taught him that the market will ultimately separate the conservative and stable projects from the speculative and over leveraged properties. This experience serves all his clients in his ability to help protect and maintain properties for long term success.
