Margaret Hobbie

I have lived in the Ithaca area for most of my life. I attended Cornell University as an undergraduate, moved away for a few years, then (like many Cornell and Ithaca College alums) moved back in my late twenties. My husband I bought our starter home in 1983 in the lovely Belle Sherman neighborhood and we are still there! We love our neighbors, the ease of living in a small city, and being able to walk to school, work (my husband retired from Cornell University Press), and the Cornell campus. Ithaca College with its outstanding music and theater programs is a short drive away. We especially love the fact that our daughter and son-in-law live in nearby Brooktondale and that we see our grandchildren almost every day. We also have a wonderful son and daughter-in-law who live in Atlanta with their two small daughters. Both our children are graduates of Ithaca High School and Cornell.

Volunteering is an important part of my life. Currently I serve as Chair of the Susan Blumenthal Pride of Ownership Awards Nominating Committee. I'm also on the advisory boards of the History Center and the Cornell University Chimes. I served on the board of Historic Ithaca 2003-2009, the City Parks Commission for over 20 years, and the Tompkins County Independent Redistricting Committee in 2012-2013 and 2022-2023. I am an election inspector for the Tompkins County Board of Elections.
