Richard was born October 18, 1952 in Nyssa, Oregon and raised on a 40 acre farm on the Snake River near Nyssa. His father, J. Melvin Beck, opened Mel Beck Real Estate in the late 1950s and Richard grew up around the business. After attending Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and completing a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Germany, Richard returned to live in Nyssa. Over a two year period Richard attended Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario, Oregon and the Portland Real Estate School in Portland, Oregon to complete his requirements for licensing and was granted his Oregon Real Estate Salesman's license in January, 1978, prior to marrying the love of his life, Lucy Garner. They are the proud parents of 3 daughters and 4 sons and enjoy following the activities of their children.
As an adult, Richard has given over 20 years of volunteer service to the Boys Scouts of America, serving variously as Explorer Advisor, Cub Master, Institutional Representative, Post Committee Chairman, Varsity Scout Advisor, and Scout Master. He has been very involved in numerous fundraising activities for the local BSA unit. He has been very involved in service to his church and has enjoyed numerous friendships as a result of his church service over the past 38 years.
Professionally, Richard has served as Vice President of the local Malheur County Board of Realtors. Recently, Richard was elevated to President of the Board, and is thoroughly enjoying his relationship with the fine people who serve on the Executive Board and the Realtors whom they serve. He is a firm believer in the law of the harvest: "As ye sow, so shall ye reap." He has reaped a great harvest of rewarding experiences since obtaining his first real estate license in 1978. In 1987 he became the Broker at Mel Beck Real Estate and then obtained his Idaho Real Estate license in January of 2001.
He enjoys camping, traveling and sight seeing with family and friends, boating, and white water adventures. Most of all, he feels a deep debt of gratitude for all those who have helped make him a success in the real estate industry--especially his many loyal clients.
