Most of Iron Triangle’s housing inventory is made up of compact single-story bungalows built in the first quarter of the 20th century. Those around Iron Triangle can pick from multiple park options, so residents all around are a quick stroll from at least one. One of the standouts is the 7-acre Lucas Park, where locals of all ages can enjoy the basketball and tennis courts. The 4-acre Nevin Park is another option, this one complete with its own community center, the Nevin Community Center, which hosts afterschool programs, a summer camp and food distribution programs.West Contra Costa Unified School District serves students here
Kids in Iron Triangle can attend schools in the West Contra Costa Unified School District, a system that carries a C-plus overall rating on Niche. A student’s particular track can vary depending on where in the neighborhood they live, but a possible path is to start at the C-minus-rated Lincoln Elementary for kindergarten to sixth grade, a school with its own garden on campus. From Lincoln, students can move on to DeJean Middle for grades 7 and 8, which has a C-minus rating as well, and where there are afterschool programs in everything from gardening to soccer. The East Bay Center for the Performing Arts in Iron Triangle has hosted a Downtown Holiday Festival since 2012. The festival, held in mid-December, features music, performances of “A Richmond Nutcracker” and an appearance from Santa Claus.
Easy access to AC Transit
Iron Triangle has several stops in the AC Transit bus system, a service that covers western Contra Costa and Alameda counties. AC Transit includes more than 100 routes.Iron Triangle also has a train station that doubles as a Bay Area Regional Transit stop and an Amtrak stop. The BART line here can take passengers down to Oakland in just about 25 minutes and take riders over to San Francisco in about 40 minutes.
Drivers can use nearby Interstate 580 to connect to Interstate 80 for trips across the Bay and into San Francisco, about 20 miles away. I-580 also links those in Iron Triangle with Oakland, 14 miles away.
Finding a bite to eat is as simple as a stroll down the street
Iron Triangle offers its share of commercial amenities within a quick walk or drive away from those who live here. The options include Richmond City Center, a complex where locals can knock out grocery shopping at Foods Co. or pick up prescriptions at Walgreens. “When they put the Foods Co. down there that made it really convenient for people in the neighborhood,” says King, who has been in real estate for almost 20 years. “Because everybody doesn’t drive.”There are also a couple of restaurants here, including the popular Salsa Taqueria, known in part for its burritos. After a meal at Salsa Taqueria, locals can hop over to one of the neighbors, Lee’s Donuts, for a sweet treat.
