The Academy of St. Joseph is in a newly restored and renovated building adjacent to the designated New York City Landmark University Parish of St. Joseph on 6th Avenue and one block from Washington Square and close to New York University. The building was completely renovated. It has ten classrooms, a beautiful assembly, dining hall, library, and an art studio. The building has an elevator. The average class size is 12 and our maximum is 18 per class. Once a class reaches 18, a teaching assistant is added to work with students.
In 2007, Cardinal Edward Egan, in collaboration with Secretary of Education Dr. Catherine Hickey, resolved that there should be an independent Catholic school within the Archdiocese of New York. The founders of the Academy of St. Joseph had a vision of a school that would encourage academic excellence in the humanities and teach the mixed traditions of the Church.
The Academy of St. Joseph has a supportive parent body and a strong sense of community. Graduates have gone on to attend high schools such as Bronx High School of Science, Fordham Preparatory School, and the Horace Mann School.

We started Academy of St. Joseph this year after we found out last summer their former school suddenly closed. I can not begin to express how happy and blessed we are to be at AOSJ. My children have excelled here. I have a child in the upper school (5th grade) and one in the lower school. There is such a substantial difference of what my daughter learned in 3rd grade at their old school and what my son is learning in 3rd grade. I feel this school is truly giving them the best education as well as preparing them for high school. Another thing to mention is the staff and teachers do truly care about the children. I can not say enough good things about Ms Coombs. She is the head of school and truly a shining star. Between her and Ms DiBlasi the school has been so well organized and my children are safe with all the outlined Covid protocols. The last thing I will mention is the students themselves. My son and daughter were immediately at home here. We are so happy to be here.

This is our third year at the school and it's an incredible place for our child. The intimate environment is the perfect balance for a young person growing up in bustling NYC. The best kept secret is in plain site in the middle of the West Village.

The caring and competent administration and faculty help create an environment that is highly conducive to learning as well as building character and confidence in students. Small classes allow extraordinarily individualized instruction in an atmosphere of love and support.
