With a goal of providing high-quality learning that equips students with the skills to be successful in all areas of life, Bell Creek Middle School in Mechanicsville, Va., takes pride in the success of its students. Serving just over 1,000 students in sixth through eighth grades, this school encourages students to join various clubs so they can meet other students with similar interests and build a sense of camaraderie within the school. School clubs include anime drawing, cross stitch club, yoga, edible art club, recycling club, boating and water safety, and sudoku club. The Home of the Bulldogs is represented by various fall, winter, and spring sports, such as football, gymnastics, soccer, basketball, tennis, and track.
Besides extracurricular activities, this school is also performing high in academics. While the student-to-teacher ratio is approximately 27:1, which is much higher than state average, it does not appear to be hindering student progress. Bell Creek placed in the top 30 percent of Virginia schools for overall test scores, with an almost 10 percent higher difference than state averages in math scores. The school also offers gifted support for students who go through the gifted screening process and qualify for the additional services.
