We have 3 kids that have gone through whittier. 1 of them had a stellar experience, and the other 2 had very poor experiences. There are a few great teachers but I don't think the school is run well. Not at all a pleasant volunteer community so it's hard to want to get involved and teachers don't want parent involvement and aren't even shy about it. If your child falls at all behind or ahead, i didn't not see that the school tries to meet them where they are. If you have a middle-of-the-pack child that can do well in very big classes, it will probably be fine. I feel like families are very disconnected at this school and if it wasn't my neighborhood school, I would have chosen somewhere else. I see some kids picked on by teachers and teachers pick their friends to help in the class, limiting access to many parents to participate inside the school. Didn't see any benefits from the IB program probably better spent on real language learning. We wish we had sent our kids somewhere else.

I especially appreciate the student-led conferences which have help my kids take ownership of their learning and feel...
