GreatSchools Rating

GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

The food is horrible and not much of a selection. Many times there is not enough servings for everyone and the proportion is laughable. You do not get many healthy choices. There is bullying at the school and it is never taken seriously by staff. Many times you will see favoritism between teachers and students. They do not help with academic success nor do they prepare you for college or real life situations. It is a small town school and outsiders are treated as such...outsiders. There is no variety of extras like other public schools. The girls sports are not held to the same standard as the football team and most times the girls are over looked. There is no school spirit nor does the staff encourage school spirit. The Staff is known to gossip about families with other students and students are made aware of issues that are for staff ears only. If you need one on one time to get help with a subject then your best bet is to hire a tutor because they won't help there.

I loved the small school atmosphere. There was never any dramas and everybody knew everybody. Knew all the teachers and were able to keep close contact and enjoy time. All administration and teachers were very helpful in preparing us for further learning and careers.

The staff is very helpful and kind and always ready to hear your concerns and assist to the best of their abilities. The student body is diverse and overall very friendly and supportive of each other.

Alumni from 2009, Would not recommend. There is definitely some favoritism in this school unless its changed (and for record I was an AB student). I actually tell people I would love to move back to that area but I do not want my kids going there for high school.

Jo Byrns is more than just a school-it is a community of teachers and students that care about each other.

I used to work at Jo Byrns for 14 years...and absolutely loved it!!! I have 5 children 2 of which have already graduated from there one that will graduate in a year from now and 2 in the elementary school. I wish it could've stayed a k-12 school but there are so many people wanting to get their kids...
