As one of the few National Blue Ribbon Schools in the valley, Challenger Basic School serves more than 300 students in kindergarten through sixth grade in the greater Gilbert area.
With a focus on academic excellence, this public charter school embraces a rigorous curriculum that helps many students learn one to two years ahead of their peers at other schools. As a result, students earn reading and math test scores that are nearly twice the state average, making the academic success at Challenger Basic quite exceptional.
The faculty focus on traditional whole-class instruction and follow both Spalding reading, with each classroom having its own library, and Saxon Math, where students learn through written work and oral math drills. In addition, students memorize and recite literature, whether prose or poetry, for an entire class once a month. They do this not only as a way to encourage deep learning of material but also as a way to improve memorization and social skills.
In addition to social studies and science, students also learn penmanship, citizenship and emotional intelligence. The core curriculum is complemented with art, music, physical education and computers.
Challenger Basic School also integrates enriching learning experiences such as Science Camp, and a calendar of events from Color Run fundraisers to field days in order to help students engage with one another and the community around them.

This school was a vast improvement from the local public school. The school make sure that children are working to their full potential without assigning excessive work. Great balance and excellent attention to creating a respectful and positive learning environment.

If I could give Challenger Basic School 10 stars, I would in a heartbeat and not need to think about it twice! I love this school and have had the pleasure of both of my kids being able to attend. I highly recommend Challenger Basic School!
