Alcott College Prep Elementary School is a public school that serves more than 600 students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Curriculum at Alcott Elementary focuses on intellectual, social, emotional and character development of students. Pupils are encouraged to explore, take risks, make mistakes and learn from those experiences. Students consistently perform better on standardized tests for mathematics and reading when compared to their peers. The student-to-teacher ratio for Alcott Elementary is 10-to-1, better than the state average of 14-to-1. In addition to traditional classroom courses, the school offers art, theater, music and physical education classes. Student extracurricular activities offered include choir, band, student council, a reading club and the yearbook club. When it comes to athletics, Alcott Elementary gives students the chance to participate in cross country track, basketball, volleyball and soccer. A recent survey of students and teachers recognized the school as having a very supportive environment. Students who participated in the survey overwhelmingly said they felt attending school daily was important, and that they try hard to get good grades. Most of the students surveyed said that the homework assigned to them is important.
