A Chicago Public Schools magnet campus, Richard Edwards Dual Language Fine and Performing Arts Elementary School serves over 1,300 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Edwards Elementary seeks to cultivate respectful, responsible and compassionate citizens who create innovative solutions for a better world. With rigorous academic programs, Edwards integrates the arts with traditional academic subjects, placing an emphasis on global and international perspectives. An International Baccalaureate (IB) school, Edwards offers middle-grade students a chance to prepare for both secondary and post-secondary school success. A partnership between Edwards Elementary and nearby Marie Curie High School guarantees a smooth transition as students move beyond the primary levels. Edwards Elementary is named after the 19th-century Illinois Superintendent of Public Instruction, Richard Edwards, who helped co-found Illinois State Teachers College (now Illinois State University). Programs at Edwards Elementary include bilingual language coursework, summer programs devoted to math, technology and design as well as collaborations with the Chicago Park District offering summer programming in athletics and the arts. Students can join a number of sports teams, including basketball, boys’ and girls’ soccer, softball, lacrosse and Special Olympics competitions.

GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

I wish there was another school in the area to send my kids to. I actually feel guilty sending them here. The principal only sees $$...

Great school, with great extra curricular activities! Teachers are awesome and very personal to ones need. Willing to go above and beyond for our children. If I had another chance in life. I will send them Edwards all over again!
