The Hawthorne Scholastic Academy is a literacy magnet school serving kindergarten through eighth grade at 3319 N Clifton Ave. through the Chicago Public School system.
Describing itself as a "community of learners and leaders," Hawthorne's students return incredibly high scores on standardized tests and 70% of Hawthorne students test proficient in English and 74% are proficient in math. Great Schools gave Hawthorne Scholastic Academy a 10/10 for students' performance in problem solving and reading.
Hawthorne enrolls 566 students who enjoy an average class size of 24 and a student-to-teacher ratio of 20-to-1. Hawthorne Elementary is a designated level 1+ school, the highest quality rating the CPS can bestow on one of its schools. Ratings are assigned based on a number of amalgamated factors including student growth, performance, school culture and climate and graduation rates.

The academics here are great- we learn a lot, and at a much higher level than most other schools. The teachers are also really great. It's an awesome school, but there have been incidents of bullying that teachers didn't notice that caused the loss of 1 star.
