Every child is a different kind of flower is the motto that welcomes you to Jonathan Burr Elementary School and resonates throughout its campus and curriculum. The school serves students from kindergarten through eighth grade and has a tuition-based preschool program. Located in Bucktown, Burr Elementary is one of the best Chicago public schools in the city's network and ranks better than most elementary schools in Illinois. It is a magnet cluster school with a curriculum focused on the arts, music, science, writing, physical education and Japanese as a world language. The school is committed to readying students for high school and college and offers technology to everyone in fourth through eighth grade. In 2021, the school won a Thrive Award, a recognition given to schools with better outcomes for student learning, college readiness and test scores. The school grounds feature the Burr Elementary School pylon and parking lot, a relaxing courtyard with muralled artwork and a gazebo with lots of seating and picnic tables. Nearby is a playground with two double-sided slides and a rope climbing and balancing structure. The school's lush green playing field is on the opposite side of the building surrounded by trees. Students get a chance to participate in sports, including volleyball, cross country, track, basketball, flag football and soccer. They can also participate in extracurriculars like music, dance and beautification projects that emphasize school pride.

The staff is rude, not welcoming and school does not take action against bullying. There is a huge focus on collecting funds tha...

I am a former student here and the school is not about who’s bullying who they just simply ignore the student(s) being bullied then that will keep happening thing is the only people who would even listen we’re my parents. This school was the worst and I’m glad I moved away from this awful place.
