Whitney Young is a very diverse school compared to all CPS high schools. Pretty safe and welcoming school environment. Academics are above average although some teachers are pretty bad.

The school as a whole is well run and many teachers truly enjoy teaching. The student body is one in which you are given many opportunities to become a part of the community and participate in activities. However, as always there are a few teachers who aren't the best. I personally had a math teacher who simply did not teach and you more so had to teach yourself the topics in order to truly succeed and thrive in the class. Although, this is not common and most of the teachers I have had want you to succeed and are open to try to help you.

There are many positives to attending Whitney M. Young Magnet High School. It's very easy to make friends, connect with teachers and sponsors, and many extracurricular opportunities. Now, it will get stressful at times, but if you push through and do your best not to burn out, Young will help you far more than it will hurt you.

This school is the best place for teachers and staff to work and enjoy in their life, as they can take out all their frustrations on these well-testes students and still students work hard and do great in academics as their parents push and support their kids, and the school staff can take all the c...

I am from a working class neighborhood located on the Southeast side of Chicago. Because of this school I was exposed to the arts and became a professional ballet dancer. Afterwards, I earned degrees from elite private colleges and universities - thank you to WYHS for opening the world to me !!!!!

This school is such a huge disappointment. My child choose it on his own because he is a high performing student and was very focused on college even from 7th grade when you make you high school choices in Chicago. Since attending-- he's a Junior now--, he performs fine academically but has gotten l...

Principal Kenner is interested in her image in the media and not individual students. The school has never confronted that the mostly white and Asian Academic Center students (7th and 8th graders) who continue into 9-12th grade carry the entire school. Without them, Whitney would be a dump, because...
