Mary McLeod Bethune School serves prekindergarten through eighth grade students with a rigorous and thoughtfully designed curriculum. The school is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and sits just off Moulton Ave, surrounded by a large playground, basketball and tennis courts. The school is named after a prominent academic leader who served as an activist for equal education regardless of race in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Faculty strive to follow in her footsteps and create the most inclusive, rewarding school experience possible. At Mary McLeod Bethune School, students are wholly educated. While traditional courses challenge students academically, extracurriculars focusing on music, art, library media and technology allow students to explore personal interests. By incorporating special programs into the curriculum, teachers ensure all students get the help they need, whether academic, mental or social. The Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention System helps struggling students with reading and writing. The exciting Dancing Classrooms program helps children build self-esteem and connect with their peers through dance.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
