The Denver Center for International Studies is a network of public charter schools focused on educating multilingual and interculturally competent citizens who are engaged in their communities. In the Montbello neighborhood, DCIS-Ford Elementary is a school where students are prepared for college and career, but also given room to grown, learn, and play. DCIS-Ford serves 427 students from three years of age through the fifth grade. It is rated green by the Colorado Department of Education and is a Colorado Center for Excellence award-winning school. DCIS-Ford is located in a pleasant residential area at 14500 Maxwell Pl. The large and park-like campus boasts soccer and baseball fields, two playgrounds, basketball courts, and colorful chalk art play areas. The school offers the traditional academic subjects such as English, math, science, and social studies; but also integrated technology, and Spanish language and culture courses. A partnership with Music Colorado provides students with musical instruction and appreciation. Four field trips are scheduled each year for all grades. Fifth graders are treated to two overnight immersive experiences with the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and Balarat Outdoor Education Center. Because students learn best when they are healthy and nourished, DCIS-Ford also offers free breakfast and a snack to all students. The school employs two Restorative Practices professionals for their mental and emotional well-being.
