Montbello High School graduated its last class and closed its doors in 2014. Located at 5000 Crown Blvd., it had been at the heart of the neighborhood for over thirty years and its loss was keenly felt by the community. Residents rallied, and in August of 2022, Montbello High School reopened its doors. Students who formerly attended DCIS-Montbello and Noel Community Arts School will now be proud Montbello High School Warriors. For many, this is the chance to graduate from the same school their parents attended. Many of their teachers are also alumni. Over the summer of 2022 the auditorium, gymnasium, and pool were renovated, and temporary classroom pods moved to the northwest corner of the campus. Over the next two years, construction will continue on a brand new and exciting campus with an eye to the future. The new high school offers Advanced Placement Courses, a comprehensive athletics program, and the opportunity for artists to earn a graduation cord through the National Art Honor Society. Students may also earn college credits towards an associates degree tuition free alongside their high school classwork. In a school merging two student bodies, in a building that is under construction, students will no doubt face challenges. Dedicated teachers and administration, in cooperation with a community that doesn’t know how to give up, will ensure that they meet them.

I have been attending DCIS at Montbello since I was in 6th grade. I have always enjoyed the diversity in the school. I enjoyed the different classes that were offered and the many opportunities that all of us were offered. We were given the chance to take concurrent enrollment classes. DCIS at Montbello also offered us many opportunities to travel to different countries and be able to experience different cultures. Unfortunately because of the circumstances we are facing right now, we are not able to travel. Again because the whole world took a break for a while and we were forced to do school from home it became very hard for students as well as teachers. I feel that at DCIS we were still able to work together and persevere through the challenges. I felt extremely supported by my peers, teachers, and faculty.

DCIS is a good school but can be better. I have been a student for 4 years and will graduate in May 2020. I like the a lot of the teachers. At the school we could have more electives and variety of classes to take. We need more options They are really dedicated and want the students to succeed. The sports at the school are not good. All the schools in our area play under the Far-northeast Warriors and their is not a lot of structure in the program. I think we have good administrators we are trying to change the school to make it better for everyone. Our school is mostly Hispanics. I am a black student who sometimes feels like the school is carted to one set of students. I like the school overall but some things can be done better.

I grew up in Montbello and it was probably the closest high school to me. That isn't the reason on why I attended and love DCIS at Montbello. Its an international school with great travel opportunities, you can learn a new language, and gain a great education with some of the greats teachers.
