Carleton Elementary School is a prekindergarten through fifth grade public school with a traditional English, math, science and social studies curriculum. In keeping with the school’s stated mission of developing exceptional leadership skills and academic achievement, Carleton was the district’s first to participate in the Leader in Me program that teaches habits of highly effective leaders. Students have daily access to laptops, and teachers make extensive use of interactive technology for lesson enhancement. After-school online tutoring is available in partnership with the nonprofit Detroit Education Society. A clinician and a counselor are on site to help support students. Carleton Elementary School offers several programs and activities, including sports like soccer, basketball and cheerleading. Students can also join clubs like chess, coding and dance. The school is within easy walking distance from the Denby neighborhood.
