The distinctive Art Deco-style building that houses Denby High School has been welcoming teens in the Denby neighborhood since 1930. With an enrollment of about 600 students, Denby High School is known for its activism. Students played the leading role in the design of the adjacent Skinner Playfield, organizing the associated Denby Neighborhood Alliance and obtaining support from the Kresge Foundation and Detroit Future City civic organization. Students continue their community activism with plans for a conservatory across the street and a building trades training program. Denby High School has also been successful in athletics, winning the 2016 and 2018 Division II football championships, and jumpstarting the professional careers of several athletes. Basketball player Victor Alexander and Antonio Granger, football players Ed Budde and Shantee Orr and baseball player Len Okrie attended Denby High School. Speedskater and Olympic gold medalist Sheila Young is also a Denby High School graduate.

What I liked about Denby High School was that the teachers cared about you and your future. Denby is an awesome place and a very underrated school because of the area its located in. Denby wasn't perfect but they tired as much as they could to make it the safest environment the students could possibly have, and I love that.

While most of the students do not care for their grades, there are few who work their best to leave out out the environment that they live in. Those students are highly dedicated to the program.Within the school the administration does their best to provide a good environment and care for the students enough to take it upon themselves to get to know the students personally. The school I attend gives off a family aura and its very comfortable.

Over the last 15 years this area has been one of the hardest hit in the country. Many of the students served by Denby come from an...

Although Denby still faces some challenges as it is a neighborhood school, the community and culture of the school has changed dramatically for the better. Hallways are clear by the bells and students are in class learning. Teachers seem more connected to the school an surrounding community and have...

Denby has improved a lot since moving from DPS to EAA. With the renovation, new staff and administration, Denby is on the move to be a great school again!

I went there in the late 80's and it was HORRIBLE then I can only imagine the decay of the school and loss of young minds stuck in this Educational vacuum!
