Find multicultural education right in the heart of Edina, Minnesota. Normandale Elementary is part of the Edina Public School District and provides students with French language immersion education. Students from kindergarten through fifth grade learn core curricula alongside other elementary students in this nationally recognized district. They also, however, develop mastery of the French language through immersion.
The first few years of elementary school are taught completely in French, so it’s recommended that students enroll in kindergarten. In third grade, students receive formal English lessons. Test scores show that most Normandale meet or exceed state averages in English reading by the end of third grade.
Normandale Elementary School is located in the Concord neighborhood of Edina, just east of Melody Lake. Highly trained teachers are not only skilled in academic training but are also fluent in French. Many teachers come from France, Canada, Senegal and other French-speaking areas to promote cross-cultural education and international connections.
The Safety Patrol, math olympiads, and other extracurricular organizations and clubs encourage holistic learning at Normandale. These organizations encourage personal growth and leadership skills. The parent-teacher organization encourages community members to form a “French village” to promote student success outside of the classroom.
