At Escalante-Briggs Academy, penguins waddle the halls where students succeed. Located at 5300 Crown Blvd., Escalante-Briggs is an exceptional pre-kindergarten and kindergarten program. The school is dedicated to imparting its values of integrity, equity, accountability, and fun. Students leave Escalante-Briggs with a solid foundation in literacy and math, and exposure to art and music.
To ensure students success in reading, writing and math proficiency, the school utilizes the Tools of the Mind curriculum. Because the administration also recognizes the importance of emotional health and teaching social skills, they partner with the Incredible Years program. This program improves student performance and reduces child behavior problems. When students fall behind, they receive additional instruction. Students who are above grade level are allowed to move ahead. Success for all students is the goal.
The school enrolls over three hundred students and employs twenty-four teachers, not including an extensive support staff of paraprofessionals, a speech language pathologist, nurse, and family liaison.
The school also recently hired a new principal, Marta Ródenas. An educator with over a decade of experience, in her welcome letter to the community, she promised an open door and willingness to listen, and to always put students first.
The campus boasts two playgrounds, an open area for running and playing, and an asphalt play area where students can play hopscotch and learn their ABCs at the same time. Friendly, bright blue penguins, the school’s mascot, look down on the students at recess.
