The Rice Children's Center serves grades first through eighth and addresses severe learning and behavioral challenges in public school students. Using researched teaching methods, the school helps students improve their performance in mathematics and language. With only 31 students in a class and a student-to-teacher ratio of about 4-to-1, Rice is well prepared to meet each child's individualized social and educational needs. The Rice Children's Center SOAR core values model emphasizes safety in the classroom, observance of others' needs and differences, accountability and respect for each other and the environment. The students leave with valuable lessons in personal development they can apply to achieve their academic goals. Rice is committed to fostering a productive and restorative learning environment for underserved children. Teachers work to establish a classroom experience that encourages personal responsibility, conflict resolution and trusting relationships between students and staff.
