Washington Elementary School guides kindergarten through fifth-grade students to become critical thinkers, responsible problem-solvers and joyful learners. Located at 914 Ashland Ave., this school is a grand example of turn-of-the-century architecture and the largest elementary school in the district. Designed by Patton & Miller, the brick school features a garden, beautiful landscaping and a turret rising from the center. Around 530 students attend Washington Elementary, with an average student-to-teacher ratio of 14:1. The school is the only one in the district that provides an immersive classroom experience for English and Spanish speakers. Washington's Wolves can sign up for extracurricular activities like band, orchestra, drama, the Junior Great Books program or the school's Dance Is My Everything hip-hop dance class. In the past, students have also participated in Students for the Information Age at the Illinois State Capitol Building. Washington Elementary's dedication to providing the student body with a challenging and inclusive curriculum and beautiful surroundings make it one of the most significant schools in Evanston.

My daughter has been at Washington for the last 3,5 years. It is a school with amazing admin, great teachers and a wonderful and racially diverse community. It also implements sustainable practices in the lunchroom and in the classrooms, of which students play a key role by composting and recycling....

My grandson was in Kindergarten at Washington Elementary when his mother died last year. The school was very supportive and helpful during this horrible time. I have seen his confidence grow, his reading and math skills improve, and his joy in learning take off, largely due to the wonderful teachers...
