Located on West Weldon Avenue, El Capitan Middle School is the smallest middle school in the Central Unified School District. The school serves students in grades 7 and 8. El Capitan Middle School feeds into Central East High School. El Capitan provides students with an impressive selection of eighth grade electives, including home economics, focused on cooking, nutrition, and meal planning. Visual art students can explore drawing, painting, design, sculpture, and puppetry. Performing arts electives include beginning through advanced band, all requiring after school practice and performances. Theatre students participate in a variety of activities, including improv, pantomime, storytelling, and voice projection. Students enrolled in the leadership elective help plan and lead student activities. Additional electives include yearbook, video production, woodshop, industrial arts, modern dance, and Spanish. Students with plans to attend university or college will benefit from the school’s AVID program, where they will learn skills and strategies from note-taking and studying to time-management, test taking, and textbook reading, and research. Admission to the program, which also includes PSAT and college entrance/placement exam preparation, is by application. The AVID program is designed to increase eligibility for admission to the University of California, California State University, and private four-year universities and colleges.

First year here and already Lovin it. Better that most schools in area and high disagree with the school score.

School is out dated and have are very low academy. Seems like the there is no investment in the kid/School. Take a drive and see for yourself

I loved attending this school this last year. They brought in a new principal in the spring and he rocked. He was always out talking to us and made us feel good about the school. The teachers seemed happier too when he came.

I attended both years at El Capitan and they were both amazing. The kids are really nice. The teachers are amazing. All the staff are nice. Overall its a great school
