With a mission to foster character, creativity and community, Gilbert Arts Academy is a tuition-free public charter school serving about 200 students in kindergarten through eighth grade in the central Gilbert area.
At its heart, the academy embodies a welcoming positive environment and strives to help all students become focused, kind, honest and supportive as they grow. The faculty here take a more hands-on and organic approach to the learning process by following a Beyond Textbooks curriculum that proactively adjusts lessons to better meet the needs of their classes and their stages of understanding and development, no matter the subject area.
With this approach, students at the academy earn test scores in reading and math that are well above the state average. They also acquire skills that will suit them better for the needs of the 21st century; for instance, all students in the academy have access to laptops, and children in third through eighth grades participate in the ‘Be Internet Awesome’ program by Google to become better digital citizens.
When it comes to creative and social development, the academy not only infuses drama, music and arts into the daily class schedule but also showcases the students’ talents throughout the year, including drama performances, art walks, holiday events and talent shows.
