Baylor College of Medicine Academy at James D. Ryan Middle School is one of the magnet middle schools serving grades six through eight within the Houston Independent School District. The academy opened in 2013, converting the prior James D. Ryan School into a magnet program emphasizing medical and biomedical sciences as part of an affiliation with Baylor College of Medicine. The institution retained its original name, which honored James Delbridge Ryan, who served for a time as a principal at the historic Jack Yates High School. Students are expected to push themselves academically and intellectually. Therefore, every class taught at the school is at the more challenging Pre-Advanced Placement level. The campus has a history of academic accomplishment, touting a Texas Education Agency accountability rating of “B.” In addition, the school’s unconventional teaching methodology creates a unique learning environment where senior leadership and staff from Baylor College of Medicine make periodic visits to the school’s campus. With a student-teacher ratio of 17-to-1 and a student body of approximately 600, children study such subjects as neuroscience, bioengineering, health technologies and Latin, which prepare them for careers in biomedical engineering, pharmacy and medicine. In addition, the school’s curriculum allows students the opportunity to earn high school credits when they reach grade eight. Students attending Baylor College of Medicine Academy at Ryan can expect a rigorous curriculum that incorporates project-based learning and provides students with the readiness needed for more challenging high school academic programs.

This... is hands-down the WORST school I have ever attended. The teachers need to get off their butts and answer emails. NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ADMINISTRATIVE. This is basically a middle school aged daycare!! Kids are literally running around all around you like two year olds!! I could go on, but...
