With a new student- and community-designed SPARK Park, the 900-plus Cubs at Horn Elementary School have a lot to smile about. Located at 10734 Bissonnet St., the school turned its grounds into a park for both the students and the community to enjoy. In line with their motto, “Horn scholars dream big!” Horn students dreamed and worked hard to raise more than $7,500 for the park through popcorn sales among a variety of other methods, with SPARK donors picking up most of the rest of the tab. SPARK, which stands for school park, was created in 1983 to help eliminate "park deserts" in areas where residents live more than a half-mile or 10-minute walk away from a public park. Much of Alief qualifies as a park desert, and the neighborhood eagerly worked with Horn Elementary to make the park a reality. Although each SPARK Park is unique, they all include playground equipment, picnic tables, walking trails, trees, outdoor classrooms and public art. The Horn SPARK Park’s public art is a student- and teacher-designed mosaic mural that serves as the focal point of a covered outdoor classroom furnished with picnic tables. The park also features a scenic walking trail and soccer field.

Do not work here. They have no respect for their employees. If you work here, there is no reaching the parents for help. Had students throw chairs and fits in the classroom and the school blamed it on the teacher

It is sad to see when a few people take it upon themselves to do terrible things to teachers who are working so hard. There are very few quality teachers at Horn now because of those people who put so much pressure on them.
