With its distinguished honor roll of school and student awards, it’s no wonder that students vie for admission to Kerr High School. Located at 8150 Sugarland-Howell Rd., the magnet school educates almost 900 9th-12th-graders who live by their motto of Unique by Design…Different by Choice. Students who gain admission to Kerr receive freedom and responsibility to take control of their learning. Much like college, students take four different one-credit courses each semester. Some of those courses are dual-credit and Advanced Placement. The unique building is divided into academic centers for flexible learning. Units of study may include teacher seminars, group lab work, project-based learning, and independent work. Students also participate in a daily multi-grade advisory period with a teacher who stays with the group throughout high school. While Kerr students are far more prepared for college than their Texas peers, a Kerr education encompasses more than academics. Speech and debate, art, theater, choir, orchestra, band, and anime are some of the 30-plus clubs and organizations students can join. Although Kerr doesn’t compete athletically with other schools, there’s a focus on individual fitness. The Curve Fitness Club is a popular after-school activity and hosts intramural activities throughout the year.

I think the best part about Kerr was the freedom where I was independent learner with only four class periods. The fine arts, specifically orchestra, was my favorite part about Kerr. The bad parts are that the school lacks school spirit which has been on the decline.

Kerr High School has been an amazing experience for me. Kerr is not like most high schools with 7 classes per day for the entire year. Kerr is split up quarterly, so you take 4 classes in the fall semester, and then take 4 new classes in the spring semester. Kerr has allowed me to have plenty of freedom, even with the amount of school work. The faculty has been nothing but heartwarming and welcoming. The safety of Kerr is a huge aspect also, many people leave their stuff around without thinking it might be stolen. Kerr is also very sociable. You can talk to anyone about nearly anything without that feeling of awkwardness.

Well, Kerr high school is all about self learning. Sometimes you get a seminar in class but overall it a self learning process. Worst part is that school is really small and there's literally no place to go around. But overall a great school for people that want to advance there academic. Best part is they're all good student. Never seen a fight in school for lot's of years.

just average. Teachers should recommend good text books for students able to do self-study well. But textbook are so terrible written compared to college text book for the same kind of concepts. Many students graduating from this school not knowing much basic science like I thought.

Horrible, that's it. Don't go here unless you want to feel lethargic throughout your high school career. The amount of stress you have to deal with at a young age is not worth it to go to a "smart people school". Only a few students there are actually smart the rest are just students who complete th...

Great preparation for college, and places full responsibility upon student as in college.

Not that great, if you're gonna be honest. You have to basically teach yourself everything and not with the means you'd like. I am seriously regretting being convinced to come here.
