Started in 1994 as the original KIPP school, KIPP Houston Academy Middle School now serves about 460 KIPPsters in fifth through eighth grades. Part of a sprawling three-school campus that also houses an administrative complex, many KIPP Academy Middle School students feed into the school from the pre-kindergarten through fourth grade feeder school, KIPP SHINE.
In the Houston area, the KIPP charter school network operates about three dozen tuition-free schools. Working closely with parents, guardians and communities, KIPP—an acronym for Knowledge is Power Program—creates joyful schools where students excel academically and are well-prepared for college, career and beyond.
This middle school is no exception to the KIPP model. Boasting test scores well above state averages, students here are successfully doing school and life together.
KIPP Academy Middle School prepares students to step confidently into their future through capstone projects, literature and community circles, restorative justice practices, differentiated extension blocks and student government. With enticing extracurriculars offered, the school packs in plenty of activity during the extended school day.
