Located at 9200 Boone Rd., Olle Middle School educates about 1100 7th- and 8th-graders. It’s the only middle school in the Alief Independent School District that offers Mandarin Chinese classes.
Like all Alief Independent School District middle schools, Olle has a STEM academy—which stands for science, technology, engineering, and math--for zoned students who meet academic requirements. Olle’s STEM academy is especially active. Working in partnership with area businesses, the academy offers weekend field trips. In class, students work on engaging activities Like the popular biome project. This activity builds science and English skills because students create the biome and describe it.
Students interested in career and technology training can get a head start at Olle by taking assessments and introductory classes. In high school, students can take advanced, hands-on classes at Alief’s Center for Advanced Careers. They can choose from more than a dozen programs ranging from advanced architectural design to welding.
One cutting-edge career pathway the center offers is industrial robotics. This pathway teaches students critical technical skills, including how to program a robotic arm, and leads to a Certified Production Technician credential. Some of the pathways lead to associate degrees.
