Ionia Middle School is “a community dedicated to the pursuit of excellence.” Passionate teachers and talented students achieve this mission statement year after year, making this Ionia center of learning one of the highest-rated middle schools in the county. Despite the large student population, Ionia Middle School offers small class sizes and reports competitive test scores. The school motto, “HERO,” reminds students to be hardworking, encouraging, respectful and own it. Teachers provide hands-on learning opportunities and a challenging, contemporary curriculum to promote these values. Outside the classroom, students can compete as Junior Bulldogs in volleyball, cross-country, basketball, dance, wrestling and track. Community clubs in the area offer soccer and other athletic teams for students to consider. Band, choir, computer science, journalism, Spanish and teen leadership are just a few elective course options to expand student learning and refine their talents. While Ionia Public Schools supports five different elementary schools, every student in the district joins together for sixth through eighth grades at Ionia Middle. This consolidation promotes diverse social and academic learning opportunities as students meet new friends and work together to build a better community.

Look, I'm not about to bash this school and say it's the worst ever; but the racism, sexism, and homophobia coming from the students here is absolutely insane, considering the fact that the teachers do nothing about it. Bullying is rampant; and teachers continue to let children off with warnings. The school only seems to care about sports; with sports being the #1 thing with all of the staff.

There curriculum is far behind and I see that now as a freshman in college. They're teachers have two mind sets first, they put in the effort you show, or they are just teaching you what they are supposed to and they have no feelings for your other classes or life outside of that class. Some teachers care and most do not.

Some teachers are better than others, although not very helpful. As a freshman in college I see how far behind the school I graduated from was. It's sad to say that but I believe everyone should know the truth. Some teachers favor their students due to sports, clubs, and even organizations they're apart of or are not apart of.

The principal at this school runs it like a military establishment. The vice principal feels she should be everyone's pal. Most teachers seem to be caring but have their favorites. Punishment is generally harsh unless your family is one of the "elites." Learning scores are rather low as is motivatio...
