Students will enjoy the school spirit at Garden City Elementary. The school, which serves more than 400 students in prekindergarten through fifth grade, opened in 1951 and is part of the Duval County Public School system. The mascot, the Stinger Bee, and the acronym STING encourage pupils and faculty to “strive for excellence, treat others with respect, inspire each other, never give up and genuinely do our best.” In addition to its core curriculum, students enjoy art, music, special events such as Book Character Days, where students can dress in costume and act out their favorite literary scenes, and an annual Poetry Festival. Another student benefit is the adjacent 10-acre park used for Fun Fridays, during which students head to the playground for games and special treats. Garden City Elementary partners with religious and civic organizations to provide activities for students and faculty. Local churches and businesses help support Teacher Appreciation Week, and sports teams, such as the Jacksonville Sharks, make special appearances to encourage students as they prepare for standardized tests.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
